    Picture this: It is one of your first times practicing yoga. You are excited and a bit nervous. You aren’t quite sure what to expect but you have heard about the benefits of yoga from others. As the class begins, you put your foot here, twist a bit there, and you try your darndest to breathe when the instructor says to!

    At times during the class, you think to yourself, “Am I doing this right?” or “How on earth did I get my body into this pose?! This is weird!”

    After the class ends, you lay in Savasana and have a few moments to yourself. You can’t help but notice that you feel GOOD!

    To be a new yoga student is a time of wonder, curiosity, and at times awkwardness. I think we all know what it’s like to step onto the mat for a class, not knowing what to expect but feeling amazing afterwards.

    For some of us, the awkward moments in yoga are enough to make us not want to come back. Some of us want to practice but don’t have the confidence to.

    To help us move past some of these awkward feelings, we can use affirmations.

    Affirmations are a great way for us to practice yoga off the mat. It can be so motivating to keep working towards a healthy mind, body, and spirit through yoga.

    Open Your Heart

    It’s all about love. Accepting love into your life through opening the heart. Receiving love. Giving love. Letting love into your life. So many of us are closed off from love, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. It is possible to find love in your heart at all times, with or without a romantic partner. Having this sense of love and peace generates the desire for connection with others.

    Giving and receiving is a natural aspect of the heart chakra. When we give too much we are depleted. When we do not give enough, we cannot let go and find freedom. When we cannot receive help, we deny connection from others. When we ask too much from others, we become dependent on them. Forgiving others and yourself when you are out of balance is a result of an open heart.

    At different times in our life we may find ourselves out of balance, and that is alright. Sometimes we need different things due to the situation we find ourselves in. When you start feeling off center and out of balance, then looking at opening the heart is a beautiful way to begin this balancing process. Showing self-compassion is a delightful way to exercise the heart chakra.

    Affirmations are a great method to tap into the heart chakra, because the heart is a gentle place. Speaking affirmations to the heart is a beautiful practice. Over time, as you practice these affirmations, you will notice yourself feeling different than you did before. Even after one session of affirmations you can feel your heart chakra lighten.

    Signs that your heart chakra is open is that you will naturally feel compelled to forgiveness, compassion, and acceptance.

    Where I live there is snow on the ground and the air is freezing. What better way to warm up than to connect with your own inner sun?

    I created this meditation to allow yourself to find your inner light and feel its warmth. Even if it’s only for a few moments, I promise you won’t regret it.

  • Forgiveness Meditation

    We have all been in a difficult situation where forgiveness was needed. Did one come to mind? In many of these situations, forgiveness is needed to be given to others. Someone may have wronged you or they have made a mistake. You may want to come to a place of forgiveness to build bridges in the relationship.

    There are also times when we need to forgive ourselves. For big things or for small mistakes in daily life. Finding room in your heart for compassion towards yourself can be so healing. This can allow you to move forward and find a place of peace.

    This meditation was inspired by a friend who was looking for a way to find this place of forgiveness. Feel free to use this meditation below during your next practice!

  • Path to Yourself Through Silence

    We are reaching the end of the year and this Scorpio season is when I tend to become more reflective on life. I think we all can get so caught up in the day-to-day experiences and it can be valuable to find a few moments to breathe, sit and be still.

    I’m not sure about you, but I’ve been so caught up in the “doing” of life lately. Thinking about money and finishing school and completing all of the goals I have set for myself. It can be discouraging at times to think that I am not where I want to be yet. I know we can all feel stressed and discouraged at times. For me, I have to remember that none of it really matters. Everything is just fine the way it is and it’s no use getting upset over things that haven’t happened yet or wanting instant gratification.

    I titled this meditation “The Path to Yourself through Silence” because I truly think that in order to see what is behind the curtain of our own minds, we need to pause and be quiet. Outside of anyone else’s opinions and outside of what we do during the day, what is underneath all of that? What is behind all of the “doing” we find ourselves so involved in. These quiet moments of contemplation are so crucial for me in my day to stay mindful and present in my life.

    I would invite you to take a few moments of silence for yourself and just check in. No judgement to what thoughts is coming up for you. Observe yourself in this quiet place and thank yourself for this quiet moment of contemplation.
